The Air Pollution Control Board, originally established in 1964, works with the City to monitor the regulations set forth concerning the discharging of air contaminants or materials which may interfere with the safety and comfort of the public.

The powers of the board include making recommendations to the Mayor and City Council on air pollution control rules, encouraging studies about abatement and control of air contaminants, researching the effects of vehicle emissions on the quality of the outdoor atmosphere of the City, disseminating educational information relating to air pollution, and consulting with local, state, and federal governmental agencies.

  • Seat Requirements

    Five seats appointed by the Mayor.
    Two seats appointed by the City Council.

    Five year terms, except that upon the expiration of the term of any Board member such member shall continue to serve until his successor is appointed.

  • Meeting Times and Location

    Meetings are held the first Monday in the second month of each quarter at 6:00 p.m. in the Natural Resources Department conference room at 320 Fountain Circle.

  • Legal Description

    Established by Ordinance No. 64-84; amended by Ordinance No. 72-156 and Ordinance No. 96-25. Initially, board consisted of five members appointed by the Mayor. It was later expanded to seven seats appointed by the Mayor. By Ordinance No. 96-25, two seats were changed to be appointed by City Council.

    Ordinances for this board established and defined the position for an Air Pollution Control Officer which works in the Natural Resources office of the City.
